Lanarkshire has become increasingly popular with tourists. Brimming with culture, heritage and personality as well as awe-inspiring natural landscapes, Lanarkshire is home to two UNSECO World Heritage Sites, award winning attractions, vibrant cities and accommodation designed to suit every budget.
The value of the tourism sector in Lanarkshire cannot be underestimated. An estimated 3 million visitors come to the area every year, contributing a valuable £317 million to the local economy and generating over 6000 jobs.
Under the banner Visit Lanarkshire, the Lanarkshire Area Tourism Partnership (LATP) is the body responsible for promoting tourism in the region and is made up of local representative from all councils in the area, representative of Visit Scotland and providers of some of the leading attractions and accommodation options in the area.
Support for this key sector is provided through dedicated tourism officers, and delivery of the actions set out in the Lanarkshire Tourism Action Plan. Additional support is available for businesses considering the VisitScotland’s Quality Assurance Scheme. Seasonal campaigns are developed and marketed through the consumer portal VisitLanarkshire. Venues for conferences, meetings and weddings in the area are marketed through Venues Lanarkshire.
Owners can also develop themselves and their staff by completing the BeLanarkshire online training portal. Registration to the module is free and it takes candidates around two hours to complete the module which contains information on the Lanarkshire area and customer service excellence training.
