This award is for business less than three years old that demonstrate a high degree of entrepreneurship and vision for the future, with the potential for further growth and expansion in turnover, profit and employment levels.

Successful businesses will clearly articulate the business idea and start up process, providing evidence of a well-researched business plan, actual results to date and forecasts for business performance.

For this category judges will look for a new offering to the marketplace and an entrepreneurial and ambitious management style.  Applicants should present a well-defined vision for the future showing how the business is building towards an enterprise of considerable potential, ideally through evidence of sales, profits and employment achieved to date.

Lanarkshire Family Business Award

This award is open to all family businesses in the Lanarkshire area. The most successful family firms find a good balance between the needs of the business, the owners, and the dynamics of the family.

For this category, judges will look for evidence of professional management and responsible ownership. Diplomacy and communication skills need to be demonstrated, while ensuring that growth, development and strategic ambitions continue to be met.

Excellence in Customer Service Award

This award is open to organisations in all sectors that excel in customer service including hospitality and food service.

This award recognises the organisation that can demonstrate outstanding commitment to customer service. The winning organisation must be able to demonstrate the highest level of customer service across its practices from strategy to customer care through to staff development, and in so doing be able to demonstrate outstanding levels of customer service.

The judges will pay particular attention to applicants that have customer service at the core of their business and have the ability to meet and exceed customer expectations.

Lanarkshire Food & Drink Award

This category recognises and celebrates the diverse range of food and drink products that are produced or manufactured in Lanarkshire. It focuses on both the success of individual businesses and their contribution to the local food and drink sector.

The judges are looking for businesses that consistently provide high quality produce to their customers.

The individual business will be assessed for innovation, quality, ongoing business potential and its overall contribution to enhancing the food and drink profile of Lanarkshire.

The John Brinkins Award for Excellence in Tourism

This category is open to any organisation, irrespective of size, involved in the tourism, leisure or hospitality sectors.

Organisations must be able to demonstrate commitment to growth and success in achieving their planned objectives. Businesses should also have a clearly defined strategy for ensuring their product provides an excellent customer experience.

Additionally, organisations will receive recognition for demonstrating how they contribute to the vision set out in the Lanarkshire Area Tourism Strategy:  “By 2020 Lanarkshire will be a destination offering distinct authentic experiences, excellent quality, value for money and accessible for all.”

Community Impact Award

This award is open to all organisations, particularly social enterprises from all sectors. It recognises organisations that seek to enhance the social or environmental opportunities for the people who live in the local communities in which the organisation operates.

Community Impact may be achieved through the organisation’s mission or purpose, or through wider initiatives outwith the core business that promote community development, staff volunteering, on-site childcare provision, community access to its facilities or green campaigns to improve the environment. Consideration will be given to how the initiatives are co-ordinated, delivered, recorded, promoted, and the resulting impact they have on the community.

Excellence in Innovation Award

This award is open to businesses across all sectors in Lanarkshire. It recognises  organisations that have turned ideas into new or improved products, processes or services in the last three years. Judges are looking for each stage of the process from idea generation, development, design, creation and launch. The judges will pay attention to :

  • The business strategy and culture for encouraging and developing new and/or improved products, processes and services;
  • The new and/or improved products, processes or services developed and/or launched in the last three years;
  • Explanation of the market opportunity and commercial results.

Developing Lanarkshire’s Young Workforce Award

This may be achieved through apprenticeships, partnerships with schools or colleges or similar initiatives that have lead to the sustainable training and employment of young people.

Judges will be looking for evidence of a long term commitment to providing training, mentoring and employing young people as an important part of their workforce.  This category will showcase the dedication and commitment of the business to securing a highly skilled young workforce.  Companies should demonstrate a proven commitment to continued personal development of their young workforce and explain how this has contributed to the business and provided added value.
