Lanarkshire Enterprise Services Ltd (LESL) was founded from the merging of 7 small local agencies in 2002 and has delivered economic development services in Lanarkshire on behalf of North and South Lanarkshire Councils since then, principally through the Business Gateway contract.
Each year LESL engages with in excess of 2000 new and existing businesses and provides a mix of expert help and business acceleration programmes designed to enable business growth and strengthen the performance of Lanarkshire’s SMEs. Our advisors also support over 1000 entrepreneurs to start their own businesses annually across the region.
LESL also delivers contract services outwith Lanarkshire and has grown to become one of Scotland’s leading, innovative, economic development providers, acting on behalf of Scottish Enterprise, Local Authorities, Innovate UK and many others to support the development and growth of entrepreneurial and SME activity and to strengthen Scotland’s economy.

Clyde Gateway is Scotland’s biggest and most ambitious regeneration programme.
A partnership between Glasgow City Council, South Lanarkshire Council and Scottish Enterprise, and backed by funding and direct support from the Scottish Government, we have been tasked over a 20-year period to achieve unparalleled social, economic and physical change across communities within an area of 840 hectares in the east end of Glasgow and in Rutherglen.
We have already remediated 240 hectares of previously vacant and derelict land, built 64,000 square metres of business and industrial space and brought more than 5,000 jobs to the area and we invest around £150,000 each year in business support activities in areas as diverse as training, staff recruitment, product placement, marketing and communications. Throughout the first year of our Prospects scheme, which was launched in 2016, we helped over 1000 people into employment and worked with over 2000 people, many of whom had multiple barriers to work.
